Second annual "Walk with Therese" to stop domestic violence

Therese was an Andy Frain usher at Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park and other Chicago events.

She was murdered three years ago. Her husband still awaits trial.

I know there are many other ushers, vendors, Wrigley ballhawks, Pinkerton Guards, etc. from the ballparks who remember her, so I thought I'd share info regarding this event. Hope you can attend.

No One Will Call Wrigley By Anything Other Than Wrigley

Maury Brown and Kurt Hunzeker at The Biz of Baseball write on Sam Zell's exploration of selling the naming rights to Wrigley Field:

Sam Zell has said that he should be able to selling the naming rights to Wrigley for as much as $400 million over $20 years, a deal that would match Citigroup’s deal with the Mets’ new stadium as the largest payout for a naming rights in US pro franchise history.

As a secondary naming-rights deal, it would be unparalleled.

And therein lies the problem.  A $400 million secondary naming-rights deal?

. . . .

Sam Zell is a Bad, Bad Man

And must be stopped before he does too much damage to the Chicago Cubs. See CBSSports.com's Scott Miller for more. We are going to regret the day he obtained control of the Tribune Co. if he does not sell the Cubs soon and very soon. Here's one thing we think we know: Sam Zell will sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field and ultimately Wrigley Field itself, separate from the team, if he thinks it's in the best interests of Sam Zell, whether or not it's in the best interests of the Chicago Cubs.

Did you watch Derrek Lee at Wrigley Field on NBC's ER drama tv series?

Well, Stay in Cincinnati Then

"That outfield is dangerous. I'm surprised more people don't get injured out there. It's worse than playing in a parking lot." -- Adam Dunn on Wrigley Field

I knew we could count on Wrigleyville23 for a good comment on this.

Cubs need Cardinal-colored glasses

According to the Wrigley Field press pass, the Cubs were 8-2 vs the World Series Champion Cardinals at Wrigley Field last year.

It seems to me that what the Cubs need are special sunglasses that make every team look like the Cardinals to them.

BTW, since 1892, the Cubs are 467-412 vs the Cards at Wrigley Field.

Check out this page for some interesting info regarding the home team advantage at Wrigley Field.

Chicago Cubs fans, Wrigley Field request list

For some reason, we Cubs fans feel that it is our duty to share our ideas with the Cubs management on how to run their ballclub, ballpark, etc. Even our Governor shares this sense of duty. Go figure.

Anyway, here are my ideas. Feel free to reply with your suggestions too.

Future of Wrigley Field

The Future of Wrigley Field

While the season is young and before we get into the debates over player performance, Cubs success or failure, etcetera, I think some thoughtful reflection on the future of Wrigley Field is in order for Cub fans and Chicagoans generally. The pending sale of the Cubs organization may well include the Field, or, some say, it may not. The point is that for the first time in decades, the question of whether the Cubs will play baseball from the Wrigley venue in years ahead is up in the air.

Any chance this is from Wrigley Field?

Any chance that this seat is formerly from Wrigley Field? I've heard that the Cubs sell or auction off the chairs as they replace them. My neighbor mentioned that his dad bought one. I found this one when walking the dog and was wondering if I found a bit of Wrigley History...or just an old park seat.

Best Ballparks?

What are your, say, five favorite ballparks? ESPN lists Wrigley as one of the five best (but says Fenway is best - shocking).

I'd have to go with Wrigley, Yankee Stadium, Camden Yards, PNC and Turner (as the best ones I've actually been in).

My Boys - TBS Sitcom on life of a Cubs sportswriter

Back in October I posted about an upcoming sitcom from TBS about the life of a Wrigley sportswriter.

It aired for the first time last night.

I was hoping for a show that was more about a sportswriter's life at Wrigley Field, but instead it is about the dating adventures of a lady sportswriter for the SunTimes and her time spent hanging out with friends away from the ballpark, with occasional references and glimpses of Wrigley, but not much beyond that.

I'm really not interested in seeing a "dating series". I'd prefer to see a program about life at Wrigley. The players, the fans, the vendors, security, the superfans, fireman across the street, scenes from the El, etc. I guess I had hoped for something more like the CBS series "Clubhouse" and less like "Sex in the City".

Moyer To Return to Wrigley

The Philadelphia Phillies have traded for Seattle Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer, reports the AP. (Despite trading Bobby Abreu and having a sub-.500 record, the Phillies are still in the NL wild card race.) "He’s expected to start for the Phillies on Tuesday [(8/22)] against the Chicago Cubs."

18 years. That's how long it's been since Moyer has stepped foot on Wrigley Field's mound.
