The caption on the first image mentions that the juniper bushes that were in center field are now gone.

Does this mean that the junipers are not going to return? Any chance that those will be available to fans? I think it would be neat to have former Wrigley Juniper bushes in my back yard. Anyone else ?

Knot whole story: Wrigley's new viewing area won't allow fans to

From today's Tribune...

Knot whole story
Wrigley's new viewing area won't allow fans to peek in on games

By Paul Sullivan
Tribune staff reporter
Published February 8, 2006, 10:57 PM CST

Knothole view: The new section in the right-field wall replaced a solid metal gate and originally was supposed to offer fans outside the park a free ground-level view from behind a chain-link fence on Sheffield. Local restoration architect John Vinci, a consultant on the project, said in December the idea was to "give something back to the people." But McGuire said Wednesday "the person on the sidewalk who hasn't bought a ticket isn't entitled" to a free look at the game.

"The feature is really intended to be a plus for a commuter as he or she walks from their homes to the L," McGuire said. "They will be able to walk by any time, any day, and look into the ballpark."

Except when a game is being played.

RedEye's take on the bleachers
By Jimmy Greefield
RedEye
February 9, 2006, 10:18 AM CST

What else did we learn on Wednesday besides the project being on schedule?

Plenty.

So $13.5 million, eh? That's a lot of money just to put in a few seats, isn't it?

Well, with 1,800 new seats, and 145,000 extra bleacher tickets sold per year at an average of around $40 per ticket, that's nearly $6 million in added revenue each season if they sell out the bleachers. And the Cubs always sell out the bleachers.

New bleachers and wind tests

THE LAST ROW CRITIC'S CORNER
How's air up there? Cubs don't know--yet

Dave van Dyck, Tribune

Now the Cubs have reconfigured their storied outfield significantly, making the walls 10 to 12 feet higher.

Did they do wind tests?

"No," said Mark McGuire, vice president of business operations. "Obviously, [the walls] are higher, but I would be surprised if it would have much impact.

City targets Wrigley sidewalk peddlers

City targets Wrigley sidewalk peddlers
Rooftop seating venues may have to draft evacuation plans

By Gary Washburn
Tribune staff reporter
Published February 22, 2006, 8:08 PM CST

Roving peddlers would be banned from sidewalks adjacent to Wrigley Field, and rooftop businesses bordering the ballpark would be required to devise formal evacuation plans under legislation advanced Wednesday at City Hall.

Mobile peddlers who carry their goods in back packs and baskets are banned from zones surrounding U.S. Cellular Field and the United Center, but they have operated around Wrigley without restrictions. That needs to change because of congestion just outside the North Side park, particularly with a bleachers expansion that will narrow sidewalks bordering Wrigley on Waveland and Sheffield Avenues, said Ald. Thomas Tunney (44th), who sponsored both measures considered on Wednesday.

If Wrigley could be sold to the state for $1...

The Capitol Fax blog writes " We need a better explanation of Wrigley sale"

It pointed out this Sun Times article which mentioned that...

" Having the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, formed to build U.S. Cellular Field, officially acquire Wrigley for as little as $1 and finance a restoration in the $350 million-range -- with work completed during several offseasons so the team wouldn't have to move out -- would be a dream come true for Blagojevich, a die-hard Cubs fan. Wrigley Field maintenance

Wrigley thoughts
- by Rich Miller

Wednesday, Apr 2, 2008

Quote:

* Something occurred to me during the Senate Appropriations Committee meeting yesterday. Perri Irmer, who runs the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority said the state would be a good steward for Wrigley Field and pointed out how Tribune Co. had allowed the stadium to fall into ruin.

Considering the state of our roads, schools, budget, etc., I’m not so sure the state would be such a great steward of that park, but she was right about Mother Tribune.

The company has added seats, cut lucrative deals with neighboring businesses, sold out just about every game, but they haven’t bothered to fix the basic infrastructure of their stadium - which is at the very heart of the franchise. No Wrigley, no Cub Mania. Yet the Trib has shamefully allowed the place to become a dangerous dump.

Will fans own Wrigley seats?

It seems to me that whoever buys the Cubs would also want control of Wrigley Field. Seems to me if someone spends a billion or so on a baseball team, they should get the ballpark included in the deal.
